Relationship Coaching

Your journey to peace and joy starts here.

Coaching is a partnership. It can teach a person how to be consistent with one’s actions and also how to be more accountable to self and others. Coaching draws upon a variety of tools and techniques from other disciplines such as sociology, psychology,  with an aim towards helping people to identify and achieve personal goals. Regardless of the specific area of focus, coaches need to be aware of motivational needs and cultural differences.

I consider a coaching session to be as personal as a psychotherapy session and for that reason, I uphold the same level of confidentiality when incorporating coaching techniques in person or online. I like the following as a way to describe the difference between coaching and therapy;

“A good way to view the foundational differences between therapy and coaching is to think of two cars driving along a sandy, wave washed shoreline. One car hits a log and breaks an axle, sinking deep into the sand. The other car swerves to keep from hitting the log, but in doing so also sinks in the sand. For the first car, the only hope is a tow truck and a week in the shop. It is broken and cannot go further. This is a therapy patient. The second car merely needs a push, a little traction under its wheels, and it continues its race across the sand. This is the coaching client.”

How coaching works

I provide you with carefully customized ideas and solutions to help you resolve your professional and personal problems. I will help you define and achieve your goals for a better life. With my help, you will learn to take action more consistently and be accountable for your progress.

At the beginning of our work, we will develop a written game plan with goals posted, a timeline for their accomplishment and  steps that need to be taken to achieve these goals. We will review this game plan regularly in order to make we are both doing what we need to do.

I will give you customized solutions and ideas that will match your specific needs and problems. I’ll be stand behind you and cheer for you as you meet goals, and be empathetic when you have setbacks.

I consult by phone for those out of state or who are living outside of the United States. For those who are able to drive to my office or if I am able to drive to where he or she is located, we will meet in person. As time goes on, we can combine face to face sessions with phone work.

When you work with me, we will strive for:

  • Improved relationships with loved ones
  • Strengthened sobriety and recovery for those with addiction
  • Increased passion for living
  • Stronger desire and ability to deal effectively with adversity
  • Living with more clarity and integrity

It’s easy to get started with an Intro Session.

Email me at david@newtoncounselingcenter.org or call me at 617-981-8186 to set up an introductory 30 minute consultation at my office. If calling from outside of Massachusetts, the consultation can be done on the phone, via secure video session. Let’s connect to discuss your goals.
